PREFACEWith the present volume our Bibliography changes over from the compilation of the annual literature to that of listing the works published during two years time. We are obliged to do this first of all on account to inform the international world of science at the possible earliest date about the latest publications on agrarian history. The financial funds do not allow us any other alternative. We believe this accomplishment with the periodically publication of supplements should be to everbody's advantage looking for information in the volumes. In this volume we have carried out many such alterations as mentioned above which changes to some extent the form of publication used up till now. It goes without saying, that there is no change in the character of the data pubUshed and the viewpoints in the compilation of material remained unchanged also and so does the classification-system and the setting we have used so far. From the beginning, however, we have not considered the form of publication definitive. We made every effort to make the work to the scholar using the Bibliography easier. We have already sometimes altered the established form of the first volume. But in this one, it became possible to carry out a couple of alterations long overdue, which should facilitate the form of publication and on the other hand, give a greater help to the researcher too.One of the most important changes happened to the system of abbreviations. Here we were using so far the titles of periodicals i. e. the bibliographical material of books, in digested words put together independently. Now we are going to change this system in the way, that the titles of periodicals of frequent occurrency will be abbreviated by certain standardized signs. For instance, the abbreviation for The Agricultural History Review was Agr. Hist. Rev., from now on we are going to use AHR. These abbreviations with the periodical's complete title and the place of its publication, will be given on a separate list. This does not mean, however, that we may not apply the system of abbreviations used before, in the first place by independent publications, books, but in case of periodicals of infrequent occurrency as well. We have had to choose this double modification, since our funds do not make the entire change in the system of abbreviations possible. There are some modifications in the typography as well. In our former volumes the titles of independent works were printed in italics, while the articles published in periodicals had the title of the periodical set in italics. In the future this distinction will be marked by the modification, that only the abbreviations of the title for the periodica will be italized, while the titles of books will be not. There is a change in the English translations of the titles too. Considering, that by many books or articles no English translation is given, but summaries in other languages, in these cases we publish the title of the summary and not its English translation, at the same time drawing the attention to the fact, in what language the summary of this certain work is given.
