FOREWORDThe knowledge and insights of many prominent wildlife scientists have been joined in this publication on North America's large mammals, their status, management and future. That this was done reflects the wildlife profession's recognition of the need for such an authoritative volume. Drawing on years of personal study and observation and the published writings of hundreds of other scientists, the authors and editors have produced a book that long will stand as a major reference on the ecology and management of large mammals.This book will be of value to practicing wildlife managers and to those engaged in research, administration and education.
