Part ofthe Exhibition
The Hungarian Publishers of Technical Literature this year again organized the now traditional International Exhibition of Technical Books at the Budapest Industrial Fair in May. Beside their own books and periodicals they also exhibited the technical books produced by the Publishing House of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Táncsics Publishers. The Soviet Union participated with a joint exhibition of her technical publishing houses. The German Democratic Republic was represented by VEB Vcrlag Tcchnik and \'crlag die ^'irt-schaft, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic by SNTL of Prague and SVTL of Bratislava, Rumania by the Editura Tehnica.
The 1,200 technical books, exhibited in an independent pavilion covering an area of i,8oo sq. ft., were inspected by over 100,000 visitors. It is characteristic ofthe great interest displayed that at the new feature ofthe exhibition—the book-sale department—half the Hungarian and foreign-language books were sold on the spot, or else orders were placed for them.
At the press reception Dr. Bcla Köpeczi, the Head ofthe Chief Directorate for Publishing, expressed his hope that at next year's exhibition the products of Western publishers of technical books would also be presented to those interested, beside those ofthe specialist publishers in the fraternal states. Dr. György Csanádi, the First Deputy to the Minister of Transport and Posts, next spoke of Hungarian technical publishing and pointed to the important development that has been achieved in this respect. He stressed that the Publishers of Technical Literature have in one year published i8o technical books in one million copies, and 50 periodicals in four million copies.
The Hungarian Publishers of Technical Literature—the organizers of the exhibition—have already set about organizing the International Exhibition of Technical Books for 1962.
