Recently, we have celebrated the centenary of the discovery of the bronchoscope. During these onehundred years, the bronchology has developed continuously and has become the most frequently applied invasive intervention in the field of pulmonology. Moreover, this procedure is used notonly by pulmonologists, but alsó by anesthesiologists, ENT specialists, as well as by thoracic surgeons in their everyday practice. Bronchology examines the morphology and functions of the airways. The technical developments: the discovery of the flexible bronchoscope and the application of the laser, afterloading, ultrasound, videó, and computer techniques have enhanced the diagnostic and the therapeutic value of bronchoscopy. Bronchoscopy describes the normál anatomy and the pathological alterations of the upper and lower airways. To obtain proficiency in this field profound theoretical knowledge, steady manual practice and reliable visual experience are required. Afterthe publication of a bronchology manual in 1995, we decided to compile an Atlas which can provide a visual aid to enhance the application of bronchoscopy. We perform 2,500 examinations yearly at the Bronchological Unit of the "Korányi" National Institute of Pulmonology. The interesting cases were recorded on videó tapes.
