Brush Up Your French [antikvár]

PREFACEIn November last, owing to the fact that many Daily Mail readers expressed a desire to know more about the activities of M. and Mme Dupont, I was asked to furnish a second series of " conversations," This I did, and dealt with the daily life of this harmonious couple in London, having already described their journey to France and back. This second series of conversations supplements the vocabulary given in the first series, and the conversations themselves are slightly longer and more advanced. They are now, at the request of a great number of readers, published in book form. In response to many letters asking for grammatical assistance, I have added an entire section dealing with useful points of grammar and syntax, and a list of the irregular verbs. I have also added a section dealing with French idioms and proverbs and other expressions of everyday use.For motorists, whose numbers increase hourly, I have added a glossary of motoring terms, arranged in alphabetical order. I hope that readers will notify me of any omissions in this, which I will remedy in the next edition. I can only hope that this second series, which like the first is adorned by Miss Ward's delightful illustrations, will be appreciated by the forty thousand French enthusiasts who have bought Brush Up Your French, and also by many others.Finally, I have been fortunate in securing once more the services of M. and Mme Régnier, who so excellently recorded the first twenty-five conversations from Brush Up Your French. As a result of this, gramophone records of nearly all the conversations of the present book have been made by them, and can be obtained from the Linguaphone Institute, 24-27 High Holborn, London, W.C.I. The set of five double-sided ten-inch records costs one guinea, and may be confidently recommended to those who desire to " brush up " their French accent.In conclusion, I must express my thanks to M.
