INTRODUCTION
One has to live a very, very long time in a city in order to discover all its beauties and values. After a stay of a few days, or one or two weeks in Budapest no one can say yet that he is familiar with our country's capital of over a million people. For such a short stay some sort of guide is needed. This little book/et is intended as such a guide. We hove endeavoured with a novel method to select all the sights, places of beauty, which can be seen within a few days from Budapest by taking shorter or longer walks. In order to make quick orientation possible we have departed from the standard travel guides and made use of illustrations and maps. We have grouped the mops and illustrations according to spheres of interest. The illustrations of each theme, naturally, serve only as samples ~ detailed information could not be attempted here — but the maps are practical aids in finding one's bearings.
The map guide contains only information which is absolutely essential to the visitor.
Our map guide presents in twelve outline forms the sights of the capital, the historical monuments, museums, amusement spots, cafés and restaurants, more important shopping centres, institutions of foreign tourist trade, therapeutic baths and outdoor swimming pools, sports establishments, beautiful excursion sites, new settlements, and the most Important lines of the tramway and bus transportation network.
Perhaps we have not done our work in vain when we hasten to assist in guiding the foreign visitor in Budapest. We trust that our novel experiment, a picture album with maps, has achieved its aim, and our visitors will find it easy to make their way around and become familiar with the sights of our constantly developing and improving capital.
