PREFACE This extensive collection of Mathematical Tables compreliends the most important of tliose required in Trigonometry, Mensuration, Landsurveying, Navigation, Astronomy, Geodetic Surveying, and the other pracbical branches of the Mathematical Sciences. The book is well adapted for generál use, and will be found to be more convenient, in size and arrangement, tlian any other compilation of the kind. The Tables of Logarithms of Numbers, of Logarithmic Sines, Tangents, and Secants ; alsó those of Natural Sines, Cosines, Versed Sines and Chords, Tangents and Cotangents, Secants and Cosecants, and of Circular Arcs, are carried to seven decimai places, and are so arranged that the funcbions required in any calculation may all be found, so far as possible, at the sarae opening of the book. As accuracy is the most important element in sucli tables, the greatest care has been bestowed in collating the wliole with the best editions of the tables of Taylor, Hutton, Callet, Köhler, Schrön, and Shortrede; and wherever any difference has been found, the logarithms so differing have been calculated anew, so that it is confidently lioped these Tables will be found at least as accurate as any set hitherto published. NO TE TO PRESENT EDITION. The present edition includes a thoroughly revised and greatly extended ' Explanation of the Tables' by Walter F. Robinson, F.R.G.S., Lecturer in Surveying, Scliool of Engineering, Canterbury College, Christchurch, N. Z., edited by Archibald Milne, M.A., D.Sc., Moray House Training College, Edinburgh.
