PREFACE TO THE THIRD SERIES.
The success which has attended the First and Second Series of these iiarratives has led to the compilation of a Third. While only such stories have been selected as may readily be grasped by a child's understanding, increased pains have been taken to present them in the simplest possible fashion. While the sentences are brief, it is hoped that tlie style will not be found abrupt; the vocabulary is such as would be employed by a teacher in giving an oral lesson to the children ; and the point of each story is obvious and attractive.
The shortest narratives have been placed first, and will be found of service during the earlier portion of the school year. For the teacher's convenience, after each story a list is given of such words as are likely to present a difficulty in spelling.
