EDITORIALClinical Radiology the Journal of the Faculty of Radiologists continues to grow both in size and in circulation. The number of original articles submitted to the Editorial Board is also increasing, and, of greater significance, the quality of original thought, research and presentation remains very high. In order to publish these high quality articles without undue delay, Council is pleased to accept the Honorary Editor's request to increase the size of the Journal. In the recent past, the Journal has contained 112 pages of Editorial material per issue: from January 1971 each issue will contain an additional 16 or 32 pages. The editorial policy of "Clinical Radiology" has always been to emphasise the Clinical aspects of both the diagnostic and the therapeutic application of X-Rays. This policy has recently been reinforced by the inclusion of Review Articles, in which are presented authoritative reviews of the current status of radiology in particular clinical areas. The Honorary Editor welcomes suggestions for, or submission of, further Review Articles, both diagnostic and therapeutic.A further promotion of the Clinical aspects of Radiology has been to group together several papers on related topics in order to produce a symposium within each issue of the Journal. This trial of the symposium style has been much appreciated by our readers and we have received many requests that it be continued. A consequence of the symposium approach is that submitted articles may not be published in strict chronological order, but it is anticipated that with the increase in size of the journal, the average time to publication should be reduced. In order to reduce such possible delay to a minimum, it is regretted that very few single case reports can be published. The format of References has been changed so that now they are given in a very comprehensive form in accordance with current international practice. The attention of all persons submitting articles to the Journal is drawn to "Editorial Notices" which is printed at the front of each issue. These Notices have recently been modified so that only current issues of the Journal should be consulted. The first issue of the Journal (then titled The Journal of the Faculty of Radiologists) was in 1949: the 1969 volume completed the first 20 years of publication. In order to commemorate this anniversary, a Cumulative Index is being compiled in which will be included both an Author and Subject Index covering the entire 1949-1969 period. Such a Cumulative Index will be of great value in referring to any article published in Clinical Radiology during the 20 year period. This Cumulative Index will be available in 1971 and will be distributed without charge to all members, fellows and regular subscribers of the Journal. The Journal cannot be enlarged, nor can these extra facilities be provided without extra cost to the Faculty. Printing costs have escalated in the last few years and will continue to do so in the present inflationary environment for example the cost of publishing the Journal has increased by as much as 50 % in the past 3 years. These increased charges cannot be sustained without an increase in the price of the Journal. It is three-fore inevitable, but with real regret, that the cost to non-members has had to be increased from 1971 to L6.10.0d (L6.50) or 16 dollars per annum.Ronald G. GraingerHonorary Editor.
