Introduction The Clinician's Manual on Hypertension was introduced in 1989 as a means of providing simple and up-to-date clinical information about arterial blood hypertension for the practising physician. The previous versions have been well received and it is my hope that the new and improved 1992-93 issue will become equally useful in the important medical task of caring for patients with high blood pressure. In preparing this issue of the Clinician's Manual on Hypertension, I have had great help from three internationally recognized authorities on hypertension, Drs John H. Laragh and Thomas G. Pickering from the USA and Dr D. Gareth Beevers from the UK. They have spared no effort in contributing new information from their respective fields of expertise and I can only once again express the hope that this will be to the benefit of the doctors who will use this book.
