Author's Preface The first time I preached through Colossians (so far as I recall) was in Germany in Summer, 1981, where I gave daily expositions to the young people at a Wort des Lebens young people's conference near Lake Stamburg, not far from Munich. A few years later in 1985-1986 I went through the letter much more thoroughly when I preached through the book for Trans-World Radio in Johannesburg in 44 broadcasts. Recently, from September 2000 to March 2001, I returned to it again, and friends in Nairobi have been hearing a lot of Colossians lately, especially during the midweek Bible-study on Wednesday evenings at Chrisco Central Church, in Kibera, Nairobi. They are precious people! In lunchtime congregations, in Nairobi Cinema, and with other Chrisco congregations in inner-city Nairobi, I have had the privilege of sharing much of this letter. No one person heard all of these Nairobi-expositions, but many have heard sections of it. Here I present it, refashioned as a 32-chapter exposition of Paul's letter to the intellectuals at Colossae. As always I am thankful to God for the different kinds of help I receive from family - Jenny, Tina and Roger, Calvin, Carey, Trevecca - and from many friends in Nairobi. I am ever grateful to the Chrisco Fellowship of Churches, in Kenya, and to Chrisco Central Church, in Nairobi, where I live for nine months of the year and which is the place I call 'home'.
