Foreword
Communication in business includes Reading Comprehension, as well as Speaking and Writing.
Reading material in this book includes:
— letters — telegrams
— advertisement — itineraries
— short articles — memos
— instructions
Comprehension is practised through true/false, open-ended and multiple choice questions. There are also vocabulary exercises in each unit.
When dealing with these comprehension questions, it is important to make the practice as active as possible, by having the students not only mark the right answers but also check their answers by student-to-student questioning.
Each text is followed by Talking Points for further student-to-student oral practice and conversation and every unit contains an Option Box, which is a selection of speaking and writing practices, including:
Speaking: phone calls; retelling the story in business or everyday situations; business role-plays and dialogues; pair and group work discussions.
Writing: letters; telegrams; memos; messages; descriptions; compositions; form filling.
Language Practice includes: business vocabulary; context questions;
methods of communication; areas of vocabulary for describing personnel and job vacancies; checking and rearrangement of texts; language games.
The Option Box in each unit therefore gives both teachers and students a choice of activities at different levels of language achievement. Some activities are business orientated, others are for general language practice;
