Part A A1 Passage A. STATE FUNERAL Here is a radio broadcast. Announcer Good evening, listeners. As you know, the funeral of General Tolandi took place in the capital this morning. Our reporter Max Muno watched the funeral procession and has recorded this account for us. Muno Today, the whole city was mourning the death of a national hero. When I left Radio House, the sky was dark and it was beginning to rain. People were standing in sad groups, waiting for the procession. We waited silently in the rain. At last we heard the sound of drums beating softly. Then we knew the procession was coming. A military band came into sight, playing a solmen funeral march. Behind them came soldiers marching slowly and drawing the coffin on a gun carriage. As they passed us we could see that some of the men were crying. I could feel te ars in my own eyes, and when I looked round, I could see that many of the crowd were weeping too. So we joined his own soldiers in mourning the loss of a very great man.
