Introduction
The delay of Windows 95 gave us a way to miss the summer, as we were busy documenting the latest from Corel. This book was particularly troublesome because we were constantly working with, new versions of CorelDRAW and Windows 95. We were definitely writing about a moving target this time.
We consider this book a living project because fully documenting a program as complex as CorelDRAW is impossible. There is always one more gem you find just after you thought you knew it all. There are usually several different ways to accomplish the same effect (especially in CorelDRAW 6). None of them are wrong, none are right. Each user prefers the method that is easiest and most productive for him or her. Rather than showing you how to create a complex drawing, we have described how to create all the building blocks for that drawing. Once you understand how to use the effects, you can put your own creative talents to work. If you find something we missed or a new way to create an effect, feel free to let us know about it. Our goal is to produce the best book possible, and your input will help us achieve that goal.
There are many people who must be thanked for helping us to get this project finished. Most important are our wives, friends, and families, who knew they could always find us in front of the computer at any time of the day or night. Their patience has been most appreciated.
"Doctor" Dickson took some fantastic photographs of several of us to include in the book. We certainly can't compare to many of his models, but he still did a great job.
The folks at Corel have been extremely helpful in getting this book out the door. Kelly Greig had the insufferable task of dealing with the beta team to get Corel's product out on time while still putting out her own "product." We all hope she is enjoying her well-deserved time with her family. Christel Mack was always working behind the scenes to assist Kelly in keeping us all stocked with CDs, which was one heck of a task. Bill Cullen, as always, was there with answers and assistance whenever we got stuck. Kim Connerty seemed to always be working day and night, logging the bugs that were reported. She was ably assisted by John Senez, Ross Norrie, and many whom that we haven't mentioned. Rus Miller put even more great stuff in the print engine and missed his summer of hog riding. Lucian Mustatea has brought PHOTO-PAINT a long way in the past two releases, and we are really enjoying the new capabilities. Mike Bellefeuille has been extremely helpful in working with us as authors, user group leaders, seminar leaders, and who knows what else. Mike Daschuk is finally off the road, so we won't cross paths quite as often (at least until he starts showing off CorelCAD). One of these days we all need to stop and relax for a couple days. Thanks for all your help, eh?
