Bővebb ismertető
The purpose of this pocketbook is to enable practising clinicians to diagnose effectively and, in particular, to give practical advice on the management of anxiety, depression and mixed syndromes. Although extremely common, these conditions are frequently misdiagnosed and often mismanaged. Our understanding of these disorders has increased dramatically over the last decade or two, and effective treatment options are available. Unfortunately, patients frequently get rather a raw deal for several reasons. Psychiatrists tend to be involved with the more severely mentally ill and do not tend to see and treat people with these conditions. These patients alsó often present to other specialities, such as accident and emergency, cardiology, gastroenterology and ENT departments, where they are extensively and expensively investigated and then told nothing is wrong. This is stressful for the patient and reinforces their belief that nothing can help them. Of course the first port of call for most patients is usually the GP. Although somé have managed to keep up to date with new concepts and current treatments, the explosion of knowledge in all areas of medicine means that this is becoming increasingly difficult.
