PfcNGUIN BOOKS DOGTOR IN LOVE Richárd Gordon was born in 1921. He has been an anaesthetist at St Bartholomew's Hospitál, a ship's surgeon and an assistant editor of the British Medical Journal. He left medical practice in 1952 and started writing his 'Doctor* series. He is married to a doctor; they have four children and live in a Victorian house in South London. Richárd Gordon's twelve 'Doctor' books have been made into seven popular films and have more recently inspired a long-running television series which enjoys worldwide success. He has published six other novels on medical themes of which the latest are The Sleep of Life, depicting the dramatic innovation of anaesthesia a century ago and The Invisible Victory, the history of the discovery of penicillin, as well as Good Neighbours - a witty observation of suburbia.
