Education in Hungary 1996 [antikvár]

Preface This book is a part and result of the work that has been carried out by a researchers' workshop at the Research Centre of the National Institute of Public Education, Budapest. The workshop involving inside and outside advisors and authors biannually produces a 'Report on Hungarian Public Education'. The first volume, which was published in Hungarian language at the beginning of 1996, gives an overview and analysis of the changes having taken place in Hungarian public education from the early 1980s to the mid 1990s. The aim of this concise English booklet is to give much information in few words on education in Hungary. During my editing work I relied heavily on the background studies and surveys that had been prepared for the Hungarian volume. However this book not only summarises the results of the 'Report' 95 but refers to the most recent events and data of 1996 providing both foreign and home readers with a fair amount of new data and diagrams. I recommend this English version to everyone who is interested in the field of education and prefer browsing data to reading long analysis. Here I would like to inform the reader that the next volume of the Hungarian reports, the 'Report on Hungarian Public Education, 1997', is coming out of press early 1998. Its English version, scheduled for late 1998, is expected to be analytic in nature and will give information on the results of the surveys having made by the Research Centre in 1997. Judit Lannert
