Elsevier's Dictionary of Metallurgy and Metal Working [antikvár]

PREFACE In the period between the appearance of the first edition of the six-language "Elsevier's Dictionary of Metallurgy" and the preparation of the second edition a far-reaching standardisation of the terminology has occurred, particularly in the steel industry and in metál working. This standardisation can largely be attributed to the excellent work carried out by the translation department of the Coal and Steel Community in Luxemburg and by the International Research Group for Mechanical Production Technology (C.I.R.P.) in Paris. The Coal and Steel Community publication contains terms and definitions in English, French, Germán, Italian and Dutch, while the C.I.R.P. publication contains terms and definitions in Germán, English and French. During the preparation of the second edition, which is now appearing under the title "Elsevier's Dictionary of Metallurgy and Metál Working", only the Spanish and Italian section of the first part of the C.I.R.P. publication had appeared. In this second edition, many ores that were included in the first edition have been eliminated. Nevertheless, the number of terms has increased considerably and as far as is possible account has been taken of the work of the organizations mentioned. I wish to express my thanks for the cooperation I have received from many sides in preparing this second edition. As always, my wife has attempted, in putting the finishing touches to the manuscript, to reduce the number of errors to the minimum, and for this I am most grateful. W.E. Clason
