In addition, there is a Starter unit In levels 1 and 2 and Revision units In levels 3 and 4. After every two units there Is a student's Self checl< section.Each unit is based around a topic, and contains:Presentation dialogue with supporting photographsVocabularySpeaking practicePronunciationLanguage zone: grammar focus and practiceSkills zone-, reading, listening, writing and speakingSituations: dialogue and practice (functional language)Culture zone: cultural Information and project workMotivating songs and gamesStudy skills appear regularly from level 2After every two units:Self check: revision and self monitoringLearning diary: reflection on personal progressStory zone: a fun cartoon story to recycle the language of the preceding unitsPresentation materialThe presentation material Is on the first page of each unit. The presentation dialogues feature the adventures of Emma and her friends. The dialogues have several functions. They introduce topics that appeal to the age group and which are developed later in the unit. They present new grammar and provide an entry point for vocabulary development. The dialogues and the accompanying photographs also provide Insights into British life, helping students to develop their cultural awareness.ComprehensionThe comprehension tasks provide a quick check of students' understanding of the presentation material. If students cover up the presentation dialogues while they listen to them, the comprehension sections can provide additional listening exercises.VocabularyNew vocabulary is taught In sets and is based around a topic to help students remember and learn. The new vocabulary Is recycled naturally throughout each of the activities in the unit.PronunciationThese sections include practice at word and sentence level. As pronunciation is introduced with new vocabulary, students have the opportunity to hear and say the words In context.PracticeA practice stage enables students to activate the new language.Language zoneThe Language zone alms to introduce students to key grammatical concepts of the language. The presentation of new grammar Is systematic and there Is thorough, controlled practice of each new concept. This is then followed by opportunities for practice In more meaningful contexts and tasks.Look and learn!The Look and learn! boxes In the Language zone and the Situations sections are used to highlight or clarify areas of usage that students should learn. They provide information In quick, manageable chunks to support students' understanding.
