Welcome in Nyiregyháza Willkommen in Nyiregyháza Kossuth Square The main square is Kossuth Square, where the Townhall and the Kossuth-statue can be found. The townhall that was built in 1842. In 1872 another floor was added, designed in baroque style but renaissance spirit. The main building is very characteristic with the arcade which opens into the square, with a large balcony above it. It is decorated with two lustitia-statues, one holding the sword, the other a scale. Kossuth-Platz In der Innenstadt ist die Atmosphäre Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zu spüren. Das Herz der Innenstadt ist der Kossuth-Platz. Hier befinden sich die Kossuth-Statue und das 1842 gebaute Rathaus. 1872 wurde das Rathaus erweitert; es war im Barockstil geplant, hat jedoch im heutigen Aussehen einen Renaissancestil. Der zentrale Block des Gebäudes ist wuchtig, unten mit geöffneten Arkaden auf den Platz, auf denen sich ein grosser Balkon befindet. Das Hauptgebäude ist mit zwei Justizia-Statuen dekoriert, die eine mit einem Schwert, die andere hält eine Waage in der Hand. Heroes' Square This square lies a few yards from the northern corner of the townhall. The southern side is ruled by the statue of Zsigmond Kisfaludy Stróbl, called „Heroes". It was inaugurated in memory ofWWl, On the western side of the square the County Council, the nicest public building can be seen. It has one floor and was built in eclectic style with strong baroque elements. In the protrading part of the facade the statues of the Hungarian king Saint Stephen and Chief Szabolcs can be seen; other decorations resemble ancient Hungarians and lion heads. The first floor reception room is richly decorated with stuccos and its ceiling is painted.
