Preface It was with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we accepted both the challenge and the responsibility from the Société Internationale d'Urologie to edit this book. This was not an easy task to undertake, but, with the help of somé of the most important authors and international medical centres, we can say with confidence that we are very satisfied with the result of our combined efforts. Unfortunately, due to the great amount of material available to choose from, we were not able to invite all the authors of other topics and subjects to contribute to the book. Nevertheless, we feel that the book is a good representation of current up-to-date research and knowledge of bladder cancer and its treatments. This book is not an abstract of the conference. Rather, it is a scientific overview in which each of the authors, based on their actual experiences, discuss state-of-the-art approaches to their presented topics. These topics deal with such aspects as the chemotherapy and randomized studies of bladder cancer, as well as many other related aspects of the disease. It provides scientific background and information about treatments which have been used to date, as well as information on the personal experiences the contributors have had with new treatments which are being used and tested all over the world today.
