THE LITTLE POLICEMAN
George had a lovely present on his eighth birthday. It was a policeman's uniform! It was small, just made to fit him, and the helmet was marvellous.
George was very proud of it. It came in a big box, and George took out the pieces of the uniform one by one. There was the coat with buttons down the front, the trousers, and a belt. There was the helmet, very grand indeed - and there was a notebook too, with a pencil tied to it with a piece of string!
'Just like our village policeman has!' said George to his mother. 'When he came to our school the other day to tell our teacher that her dog was found, he brought out a black notebook just like this, with a pencil tied to it. Oh, Mother! I shall feel important dressed up like a policeman!'
