TO THE STUDENT
Each chapter of this study guide has been prepared in three sections in order to contribute to your understanding in a step-by-step manner. The first section summarizes the chapter highlights presented in your text in a concise orderly form. This section is intended to complement and not to substitute for reading the text. We encourage you to read the text first and then read the chapter highlights. During your review of the highlights, use your text for ready reference if points in the study guide are unfamiliar or unclear.
The second part of each chapter provides a means of testing, by the use of short answer questions, your retention of concepts presented in the text and chapter highlights. True/False, matching, and multiple choice questions are designed to enable self-examination of key points in the chapter without the rigors of detailed calculation and presentation. After completing this section, you should critically score your results with emphasis on reviewing areas for which you need additional study effort.
The last part of each chapter contains exercises which allow you to test your ability to read, interpret, and solve short problems, and present solutions in an orderly manner. We feel this section complements the problems in your text. If you find difficulty in solving problems of this type, we encourage you to apply additional effort on problems at the end of each chapter in the text. The solutions for the exercises as well as the short answer questions are found at the end of each chapter.
We want to extend our appreciation to the authors. Professors Sidney Davidson, Clyde P. Stickney, and Roman L. Weil, of the text Financial Accounting: An Introduction to Concepts, Methods, and Uses for the invitation and the encouragement to write this study guide.
