FOREWORD
Los Angeles has long been dubbed the "Entertainment Capital of the World." More than twelve million people spend some time in the "Big Orange" and in the surrounding Southland every year.
Fodor's Los Angeles is designed to explain just what this stimulating city is all about. It is written to help you decide what to do and where to go once you're there. The book is intended to be your tool for making some order from the chaos of possibilities. We have therefore concentrated on presenting the broadest range of choices offered by the city and within that range to offer selections that will be safe, reliable, and of v^ue to you. We think that our descriptions will provide you with enough information on which to make intelligent choices based on your own tastes and pocketbook.
All selections and comments in Fodor's Los Angeles are based on the editors' and contributors' personal experience. We believe that our first responsibility is to inform and protect you, the reader. Changes are bound to affect any travel guide, however. Many changes can occur in Los Angeles while we are on press and during the succeeding twelve months or so when this edition is on sale. We cannot, therefore, be responsible for the sudden closing of a restaurant, a change in an amusement park's admission fees, days, or hours, a shift of chefs (for the worse), and so forth. We welcome letters from readers on these changes or from those whose opinions differ from ours. We will revise our entries for next year's edition when the facts warrant it.
Send your letters to the editors at Fodor's Travel Guides, 2 Park Avenue, New Yorit, NY 10016. Continental or British Conmionwealth readers may prefer to write to Fodor's Travel Guides, i>-10 Market Place, London WIN 7AG, England.
Finally, a word about the "nearby attractions": Los Angeles is the major port of entry for Southern California. This book would have to be published in several volumes if we tried to cover it all. Instead, we have selected only a few of the most popular or rewarding side trips a visitor might want to add to an itinerary after arriving in the city.
