G.C.E. Examination Papers for Translation [antikvár]

PREFACE This compilation of passages is based on the English Section of papers set by the University of London for the General Certificate of Education examinations in Spanish, French, Germán and Italian. The first part consists of the English passages at the Ordinary Level, and the second part of those at the Advanced Level of the General Certificate of Education. Idiomatic expressions, useful phrases, prepositions and other words with two or more meanings in Spanish have been translated in the Notes which appear after the passages, and, where it has been considered advisable, grammatical comments have been added. Words are annotated when they first appear in the passages, so that students may refer back to them when such words recur later on in the book. I hope that this publication may be of assistance to teachers and students in Secondary schools, Evening Institutes and Colleges, both in the classroom and as homework. Acknowledgments are due to the Senate of the University of London for their kindness in granting permission to reproduce all the English passages set by that University for their General Certificate of Education examinations.
