IntroductionWho is Generation 2000iot?Generation 2000 is designed for secondary school and young adult students learning English in theu- own country.What level is the course?The course takes learners from beginner or false beginner to intermediate level.What components has it got?Each level of Generation 2000 has got a Student's Book, a Workbook, a Teacher's Book and Cassettes.How is the Student's Book organised?The Student's Book contains 50 lessons divided into five units of ten lessons. Asa rough guide, it is envisaged that each page of material will take approximately one lesson to complete.What is recorded?All activities in the Student's Book marked with a cassette symbol (H) are recorded. When a number appears after the cassette symbol (S 01), it means that the tapescript appears on pages 100-107 of the Student's Book and Teacher's Book.The texts of the reading lessons are also recorded and there is a listening section in each of the Progress Tests.Which skills are practised in the skills lessons?These lessons are integrated skills lessons and therefore reading, writing, listerung and speaking are practised through connected activities. Each lesson includes semi-authentic material as a basis for the development of the four skills.Do students meet new structures in the reading lessons?The reading texts are designed to consolidate the structures previously studied and also to preview new items which are practised more intensively later. Preview items are simply meant to be pointed out to the students at this stage.What do the students do in the project lessons?Each project lesson contains a model project which students study through guided activities. They then choose an area of interest within the topic as a whole and develop their own material. The final stage of the lesson involves the students in presenting theu: projects to then: classmates and finding out more about their classmates' work.How should the Reference Grammar be used?The Reference Grammar at the back of the Student's Book is an integral part of the course. It is divided into five sections which correspond to the five units of lessons in the Student's Book. There are entries on all the main language areas introduced in Generation 2000 2 (see the Reference Grammar contents hst on page 109) and it can be used by the teacher and student working together or by the students on their own.
