. . . but with
One Concern!
Introductory remarks by the author, Pastor Jack W. Hayford
I was a 17-year-old college student when I sat under my first professor in a class pursuing theological studies. Two textbooks were involved, each with a radically different style and purpose; the first, Augustus Strong's Systematic Theology, the second, Pardington's Studies in Christian Doctrine. The first was a towering tome of over 1000 pages, exceeding fine print, and with elaborate development of classic theology written for the scholarly community. The second was less than 300 pages, brief, warmly accessible and popular in approach. The first was to provide for exhaustive study as a scholar's necessity or depth of pursuit required it; the second was to provide an overview of basic truth for the common man.
It is exactly 50 years later as I write these words, with appreciation for the trust and encouragement of Sovereign World to release the present volume for publication in the form offered here. They have invited me to allow their preparation of a resource much like the second one mentioned above. I have been pleased and honored, and gladly consented to do this, but I have felt one concern. That's why I have recalled the distinction between the above two books I used those many years ago, for it serves my desire for the reader's
