Bővebb ismertető
The reader is holding a long-needed volume, the GUIDE to Komárom-Esztergom county. It is no cxaggeration to say that the present county, i.e. the outcome of Trianon, is the county of superlatives. It is the smallest, but most industrialized and one of the most densely populated counties of Hungary. This is the place where the remains of the flóra, fauna and rocks of the receded Pannon Sea are the most spectacular. Vértesszőlős, Hungary's oldest, almost 500,000 year old humán settlement, where Sámuel lived, is alsó here. The country's first stone castle, where the first Hungárián king, St. Stephen was born, was built here too. Here was the most important royal and church seat of the medieval Hungary, the first capitalof thecountry.Oneof themo^í beautiful water castles of the country, the castle of Tata, although in a slightly rebuilt state, is alsó to be found here. The Bakócz Chapel, the most intact ancient monument of church architecture of the Hungárián Renaissance is in Esztergom. The richest church panel painting collection of Ihe country is in tlie Christian Museum. Most of Fellner's Laté Baroque buildings and the first 'English Park' of the country are in Tata; the most intact Kamaldul building complex in Central Europe can be seen in Majk. The Basilica in Esztergom is the biggest church of the country. The fortresses of Komárom is the largest 19-th-century fortifications. The Turul in Tatabánya is the biggest bird statue of the country. The Open-air Museum in Tatabánya will be the most intact industrial outdoor museum. I could continue slill, but reading this book the reader will encounter all those curiosities and really unique points of interest, and I do believe that he will alsó fecl like visiting them. I alsó hope that the ancient monuments will enjoy a greater appreciation and more resources will be spent on their maintenance and conservation. Dr. Sarolta Szatmári
