The oppeorance of this lorge volume will be a truly important event in internatlonol science. As far as I know, no country has as yet undertaken a publication of this kind, presenting in so comprehensive and complete G way the possessions of its museums in all fields. ( ) The publishing of this book seems to me all the more important and necessary inosmuch as the Polish collections have so far not been fully appreciated obroad, in spite of the role that we play in international museum organizations. The information contained in Professor Lorentz's book will not only make an impression by reason of its wealth and completeness but will also prove that in many fields Poland can boast treasures no less valuable than those which are to be found in countries with museums of established internationol reputation. ( ) Two more ospects of this book ore worth noting. The concise but highly instructive histo-ricol introduction gives the reader a good ideo of how much has been done by People's Poland for Polish museums and, thereby, for the notional culture. The dispassionate but eloquent description of the situation of Polish museums at the time of the Partitions and, especially, after the barbarous crimes of the Nazis, stands out in glaring controst to the flourishing growth of our museums in the past twenty-five years. This, too, is very significant and in this sense the book also plays a most important role.
