THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEMATOLOGY 39TH ANNUAL MEETING AND EXPOSITION 1997 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM BOOK The slimness of this volume, compiled annually since 1969 to accompany the Education Program of the Annual Meeting, deceptively conceals the richness of the material contained within it and the enormous effort that went into its production. This year Dr. Orah Platt chaired the Education Committee, which put together one of the most extensive education programs in our history, and we are all grateful to her for her hard work selecting participants and encouraging them to submit written versions of their contributions for this book. As usual, a highlight of the Education Program is the Ham-Wasserman Lecture, delivered this year by John Goldman, D.M., of Hammersmith Hospitál, London, on the subject of bone marrow transplantation in chronic myelogenous leukemia. Since inception, this book has been ably produced by Dr. James R. McArthur of the University of Washington, and we are grateful to him, too.
