Hemophilia in the Child and Adult [antikvár]

Preface It is with great pleasure that we present the third edition of Hemophilia in the Chitd and Aduit. The thoughts and experience of a group of clinicians who treat hemophilia are represented in this book, as well as somé practical approaches to patient care. While there is fairly good unanimity of thought as to how one treats a patient with this chronic illness, somé variations do exist; the choice of treatment is left to the individual physician. For the Center Directors, the entire book is recommended; for those specialty team members, we recommend particular chapters. Most of us have been working in the field for many years and believe the reader will find our specialty team's new ideas refreshing. We particularly recommend Bob Simon's thought-provoking chapter on the family and hemophilia, which addresses the aspects of this disease that must be faced by growing children. We have not addressed the problems introduced by product shortages and new technology for replacement factor. We hope that these problems will be solved shortly. We have alsó not included a chapter on the molecular biology of clotting factors. This new knowledge, as well as falling outside the scope of this book, as yet has few practical applications in patient care. However, problems related to the introduction of the humán immunodeficiency virus (HIV) into the blood supply as well as dilemmas caused by the clinical and psychosocial manifestations of AIDS in adolescents and young adults are addressed in detail.
