Bővebb ismertető
TO THE TEACHER This is a supplementary reader for the beginner who has been learning English for a year or two. I have tried to make the contents and the approach suitable for the many people who begin to learn English when they are already aduit or nearly aduit. At the same time I have kept the language as simple as possible. Here and There may be read after Book Two of World- Wide English or of any similar course. The more able students may well start reading it before they have finished Book Two, since the first few pages contain almost nothing that is not dealt with in the first half of Book Two. Here and There has been written entirely in idiomatic English; but it is English that is restricted to the sentence patterns, structural words, and tenses normally taught in the second year of English. The content words are alsó restricted, and wherever a difficult word is used its meaning is made clear by the pictures or the context. Students will find Here and There easier to read than other supplementary readers. It is intended to be easier to read. There is no point in wasting time trying to read language that has not yet been taught. The purpose of a supplementary reader is to supply the student with the additional reading practice that he so badly needs in order to consolidate what he has been taught before he moves on to the next stage. This purpose will not be achieved unless he can read it easily, quickly and more or less on his own. I have therefore written Here and There, illustrated it, arranged it and chosen its content with the sole purpose of making it easy to read. By reading it, the student will not gain much new knowledge, but he will improve his English and he will familiarise himself with the background to the language. Here and There is self-teaching.
