Highlights of Archaeology [antikvár]

Foreword This is the first in a series of publications planned by the Israel Museum which will present a selection of the voluminous treasures housed in the various departments of our museum. It is appropriate that highlights of archaeology should begin the series. Our archaeological museum is unique in presenting the artistic and cultural achievements of the people who lived and created in this country since the earliest times; it also offers a glimpse into the surrounding civilizations of the ancient world with which close mutual relations always existed. Our objects are not only admired for their aesthetic appeal, but also for the fact that the entire exhibition reflects the cultural and material history of this country, which is situated on the crossroads of civilization and was destined to become the cradle of monotheistic religions. This book presents the beauty of our ancient art, perpetuated in photographs. The interested reader will also find accompanying descriptions, expertly discussed by our curatorial staff. For the visitor to the Israel Museum, this will undoubtedly be a memento of a delightful experience.
