THE SENSATIONAL SCENT 1 \ About two miles outside of a small provinciai town Centerburg2 there lives a boy naméd Homer. Homer's father owns a tourist camp. Homer's mother eooks light meals for the tourists and cleans up their cabins, and takes care of their tents while Homer's father takes care of the garage. Homer helps his parents to look after the camp: sometimes he washes the cars to help his father and sometimes he cleans the tourists' cabins and takes care of the lunchroom to help his mother. When Homer isn't going to school or helping his parents or playing with other boys, he buílds radio sets.3 It is his favourite hobby: building radio sets. He has a workshop in one corner of his room where he works in the evenings building new radio sets, replacing the old parts and so on. Before going to bed at night he usualiy goes down to the kitchen to have a glass of milk and somé bread and butter because working on radio sets makes him hungry, he says. One night Homer came down to the kitchen, got a bottle of milk from the ice-box, put somé into a saucer for Tabby, the cat, and took a glass of milk for himself. He finished his milk and was just looking round the shelves to see if there was anything nice to eat when he felt something soft touching his feet. "Hello, Tabby," said Homer, "you've come for your milk."
