PROLOGUE All of the following is true. Some of the names have been changed to protect the guilty, but all the anecdotes, the stories, the situations, the highs and lows, the scams, and the drugs, the love, the death, and the insanity are as were described to me by Anonymous—someone who has spent the last fifteen years working at the heart of the luxury hotel industry. The hotel staff are fictionalized, however, the incidents are real, and the celebrities play themselves, but the stories now all take place in a fictitious hotel known as Hotel Babylon. Narrated by Anonymous, the action is compressed into twenty-four hours. But everything else is as it should be: the rich spend money, the hotel makes money, and the chambermaids still fight the bellboys over a two-pound coin.
