Origins of the Book
Today, we are operating in a global economy that influences all of us. Our firm's experience with globalization underscores this important trend. In 1993, as the members of our human resources firm began conducting consulting assignments with organizations around the globe, we realized that learning, human resource development (HRD), and performance improvement departments experience some of the same issues regardless of where they are located. As we assisted more organizations, we identified emerging trends that were actually occurring all across the globe.-To verify our assumptions, we conducted research with training and development organizations in thirty-five countries, and that research helped us explain emerging issues and trends in each country. Additional research confirmed our assumptions that most of the issues and trends are similar throughout the world. The results are sixteen critical trends that every training and performance-improvement professional must understand and prepare to cope with in a productive way.
