THE HCC'S POSITION AND ROLE IN THE HUNGÁRIÁN ECONOMY The Hungárián Chamber of Commerce is a federation of representative organizations which are established on régiónál or professional basis by the Hungárián companies and enterprises to co-ordinate and to safeguard their interests. At present there are 9 régiónál and municipal chambers and 30 professional associations operating within the organizational frameworks created by the new Statutes which the Chambers' General Assembly adopted on June 2, 1990. The Statutes make it possible for the various elements of the social and economic life that, if the need arise, they set up additional organizations at any time and any place and that these new organizations may jóin the HCC, as affiliated members. The Hungárián Chamber of Commerce integrates and co-ordinates the activity of its member organizations and it alsó assumes the tasks of representing and co-ordinating interests on government levels. To this end it is in direct contact with the government and the various organs of state administration. The HCC continues and further develops its traditional activities to which are now added the specia! functions and duties of the régiónál and professional organizations. The Chamber carries out an intensive promotional activity both on domestic and foreign ground to heip the Hungárián economy integrate into the European Community. By providing a wide rangé of information and a broad network of contacts it fosters foreign investments in Hungary. The HCC has a business partner matching service, creates and communicates business opportunities, contributes, in various forms, to the development of trade and other business transactions and supports the activity of the Joint Venture Association. The Chamber has won acclaim alsó as a publisher due to the high standard of its publications. It is a founder of the popular Világgazdaság (World Economy) and Heti Világgazdaság (Weekiy World Economy) and will soon come out with a new monthly economic magaziné in English. It is alsó the compiler and publisher of several periodicals in Hungárián and foreign languages.
