Hungarian Geological Institute [antikvár]

Founded in 1869, the Hungarian Geological Insti- tute was entrusted with the fundamental task of undertaking a permanent geological surveying of the country, and with prospecting for mineral de- posits. To make this activity successful, the Institute utilizes all means secured by scientific and techni- cal progress. The discovery of numerous mineral deposits, the preparation of Hungary's geological maps and a flourishing geoscientific life — all these are due to the activity of our geologists. Beside contributing efficaciously to the develop- ment of the economic potential of the country, the Hungarian Geological Institute has extended its sphere of activities far beyond the national borders. The work of its experts has earned high distinc- tions both in Hungary and abroad.
