On March 25 a gala concert was held in commemoration of Béla Bartók. The speakers in the Grand Concert Hali were Deputy Prime Minister György Aczél and Dr. József Újfaiussy, Rector of the Academy of Music, György Aczél delivers his commemorative speech. Two quotations: -There were and are very few names in our history, which if uttered anywhere in the world, would so unambiguously recall Hungary, than his name. Today, his music belongs to the entire universe, but the composer is a son of our people, and here we now examine what his oeuvre says to Hungary, to present and future generations. And because his music is inseparablefrom the world, when we speak about him, we are linked with the true and better part of humanity. The music and humanity of Béla Bartók cannot be separated ín him, his life and oeuvre lived in perfect unity -. -He was a Hungárián in a manner that the whole of humanity, the cares, desires, and happiness of the complete humán existence were present in his art, and he belonged to humanity in such a way that all his works shine as Hungárián -.
