The tourist who makes his way on a fine morning from Legnica to Jelenia Gora usually stops fór a moment when he reaches the Kaczawskie ridge in order to admire the beautiful panorama spread out before him. Immediately below him at the bottom of the valley the town lies under a thin pali of mist and smoke, surrounded by a garland of low wooded hills, while the compact mass of the Karkonosze Mountains broods above it in the distance. The Karkonosze are nőt a rangé of filigree peaks reaching up to the sky. The gentle, carefully modelled contours of the unbroken ridge, wrapped always in a mysterious bluish mist pierced only by the sparkle of snow-patches that remain until the height of summer, suggest the eternal and unchanging presence of primeval natúré. From close view, however, the rangé no longer looks monolithic and the seemingly uniform ridge is broken up intő varied and interesting relief.
