Foreword
During World War II, the U.S. Defense Department, at that time known as the War and Navy Departments, put together hundreds of informative pamphlets for American servicemen. These pamphlets had titles such as Christmas Mail Regulations for Overseas Army Personnel and Helpful Hints to Those who Have Lost Limbs.
The GI's were also provided with guide books that instructed them about the inhabitants of the countries they were fighting in or places they were temporarily stationed. Pocket guides to Australia, Egypt, Iran, North Africa and many other countries appeared.
No author was given credit for the guides; they were created by the Special Service Division, Army Service Forces of the U.S. Army in Washington D.C.
