Preface This is the fourth edition of International Banking, continuing the series which began in 1966. Even though this edition bears the same title, it is in many ways a very different book from the third edition, which appeared in 1978. This is not surprising. Each edition has reflected the prevailing practices of international banking in U.S. banks at the time it was written. Banking has been changing at a rapid pace. In looking back over the four editions, one is amazed at how much has changed in banking in the 17 years since the series began.
