prefaceew textbooks survive to a fifth edition. We are gratified that this text is one of the survivors, representing over fifteen years of our collaborative efforts. We believe that our ability to reach a fifth edition is due largely to three factors: (1) continued updating to parallel the rapidly evolving field of international business; (2) the ability to refine methods of presentation that can come only by trial and error over the long life of a book; and ( 3 ) the interest and efforts of a large group of academicians who continue to give us critical feedback on content and pedagogyTo help guide ug^ in preparation of the fifth edition, we sent a large number of cpestlpnaaifes,to'people who have taught introductory international business couf ses in, a Variety of types of institutions. Based on their familiarity with thé fourth edition, we asked what topics should be added, deleted, or eiiiph.asized to a different degree. We asked how materials could be presented better. We asked what additional enhancements would best assist in teaching the course. We were gratified that so many professors took the time to give us constructive suggestions.Although there were too many suggestions to detail them all here, the major ones for the text can be summarized as follows:shorten the book,simplify the presentation,help students identify geographical locations discussed in the text,update.
