Introduction This publication contains the abstracts submitted for the XVI FIGO World Congress, held in Washington, DC, from September to 8lh, 2000. More than 2500 abstracts were received and reviewed by the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee. For uniformity, all abstracts have been formatted electronically. Those submitted on paper were retyped and carefully proofread to ensure the retyped version was identical to the originál. Occasionally, symbols in electronically submitted abstracts may have been lost or changed in the re-formatting process. Please advise the Congress staff of substantive errors that distort the data or change the meaning and we will endeavour to publish a correction in the Congress Daily Newspaper. This volume contains the abstracts presented on one day of the Congress. They have been organized to reflect the Scientific Program. The first section contains summaries provided by the invited speakers presenting in the Concurrent Sessions and Plenaries; they are followed by the Free Communication abstracts and the Videós. Please refer to the Final Program for an explanation of the cocling system used. These codes are alsó used as the reference in the Author and Co-Author Index which appears at the end of this book. All posters will be displayed in the Exhibit Hall and each will be up for one day.
