LOOKING FORWARDDecisions were made before the election of the new FINA leadership, on the venues and dates of the Swimming, Water Polo. Diving and Synchronized Swimming II. FINA World Cups. They were decided prior to the Moscow Olympics. That is how it should be. Sporting life cannot stand still, or slow down to wait for changes of leading roles inside FINA. Continuity and smooth running are important to the success of established regularly held competitions. Naturally, in the first phase of their activity, the new leadership relies, to a great extent, on the achievements of the previous officials. It must be admitted that the first phase of the activity of the new leadership appointed in Moscow was more troubled than expected. Swimming's II. FINA World Cup was to have been held in Montreal April 11-14,1981. Canada, however, resigned from organizing the event. A new venue had to be found, meanwhile the GDR and the Soviet Union indicated that the date was unsuitable. After consideration we decided against the idea of staging it inDecember, and resolved to schedule the II. FINA World Cup for 1983. There is no point in staging this event on a level less than its merit. The best of the world should be there. It requires thorough, careful organization. I am confident that the Water Polo II. FINA World Cup. April 25May 2, 1981 will be worthy of its ránk. Long Beach, near Los Angeles, seems to be the ideal host. As the Olympic sixth place finisher 1 lolland does not wish to participate in the U. FINA World Cup; Italy, because of its Olympic placing, was given the opportunity to compete alongside the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Spain, Cuba, Australia and the hosts United States. The Azzurri, However, did not wish to take the opportunity, Canada invited to complete the field. We are pleased to announce, that in diving and synchronized swimming everything proceeds according to schedule. Both I'lNA World Cups will be hosted by Mexico City. I am convinced that the Mexicans will again provide ideal circumstances. All in all, we feel and know that
