The fishermen of Pebblebury were such famous fishermen that they were known throughout the whole wide world. But of all of them it was old Bob Brand who was held in the highest esteem. For all his hundred years there he was every dawn in his old boat fishing away on the Danube, heaving the heavy oars from the crested waves all the way from Pebblebury to Oilspring. And when the willow-trees' whip-like branches hung in his way from the bank, he would blow gently at them and they drew back in fright. High up, in the middle of the sky, the Sun with his face all aglow looked cheerfully down at Bob Brand and would say to him gleefully, "Good old Bob! You 're the man for the job! May you live long, old Bob!"
