PREFACE With the general aims to contribute to the exchange of opinions and to the development of cross border cooperation the International Conference on Long-tenn Experiments, Agricultural Research and Natural Resources is dedicated to the 45"" anniversary of the establishment of the Field Experiment at Nyirlugos. In this regard, one of the most important tasks is to evaluate results of long-term research sites, test sustainability of water and nutrient management systems and identify priorities of natural resource management. For sustainable use of natural resources, we need research in the principles of multifunctional agriculture and education that will address the problems of communities. The goal is to bring together people and resources, to promote an agriculture that is efficient, profitable, socially acceptable and environmentally sustainable. The primaiy objective is to provide a model, where the total agricultural system and community are taken into account, and agriculture is not separated from the natural ecosystem of the region. The most critical challenge is to consider the needs of technological development and natural ecosystem, and provide an educational environment for people living in Nyírség region. The international conference will also help cross border cooperation on the sustainable use of natural resources. All Hungarian and foreign experts are welcome, including members and leaders of doctoral schools in the fields of agriculture, natural and social sciences. Debrecen-Nyirlugos 31.
