IN THIS ISSUEJeffrey C. Dixon is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the College of the Holy Cross. His research interests include race/ethnicity, social inequality, and political sociology. His research has appeared in such journals as Social Forces, Public Opinion Quarterly, the British Journal of Sociology, Social Science Quarterly, and Teaching Sociology. He continues to work with Andrew Fullerton on such projects as an examination of Americans' attitudes toward social spending as well as public opposition to European Union enlargement.Volker C. Franke is Associate Professor of Conflict Management at Kennesaw State University. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Director of Research at the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC), one of Germaitws premier peace and conflict research and capacity building institutes. From 1998 to 2007, he was director and managing editor of the National Security Studies Case Studies Program at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He is the author of Preparing for Peace: Military Identity, Value-Orientations, and Professional Military Education (Praeger 1999) andnumerous journal articles on peace and security studies, civil-military relations, social identity, and military socialization. He is also the editor of Terroristy and Peace-keeping: New Security Challenges (Praeger 2005) and Security in a Changing World: Case Studies in U.S. National Security Management (Praeger 2002).Andrew S. Fullerton is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Oklahoma State University. His research interests include work and occupations, political sociology, social stratification, and quantitative methodology. His research has appeared in such journals as Social Forces, Public Opinion Quarterly, Social Science Research, Social Science Quarterly, and Sociological Forum. He is currently working on several projects within the area of political sociology, including several studies of long-term change in the gender gap in political participation in the American South and a study of the methodological issues under-lying the relationship between âge and attitudes toward social spending in the U.S. (with Jeffrey Dixon).Yaprak Gürsoy is currently Visiting Assistant Professor at Sabanci University, Istanbul. She holds a Ph.D. in politics from the University of Virginia. Her research interests include democratization, Southern European politics, and the European Union.
