FOREWORD
In Art Dreams Come TVue—this is the title Katarzyna Kozyra, one of the most outstanding Polish artists and a highly acclaimed international video and performance artist, gave to the project she began in 2003. My own participation in one of the parts of the project mean these words acquired special significance for me. I am deeply convinced that, in the contemporary world, art is the only instrument facilitating complete self-fulfillment. It Is precisely thanks to this assumption that the gallery I run succeeded In organizing the project's premiere.
In working on the exhibition and the publications, we were accompanied by a profound sense that only In the field of art—thanks to the hard work and support of many people—can we reach for the stars and achieve distant goals. It Is worth at this point mentioning the people and institutions who, sharing this conviction, supported us in the fulfillment of our mutual plans.
One of those persons Is Hanna Wroblewska, curator of the whole project and vice-director of Zach^ta National Gallery of Art, whose competence and ability to quickly make the right decisions enabled us to overcome many hurdles that emerged on the way towards turning our dreams Into reality. Patrycja Sikora of BWA Wroclaw proved that fulfilling dreams required attention to detail, diligence, and a great deal of organizational work. I cannot also omit to mention here Nina Hobgarska of BWA Jelenia Góra, at whose instigation we decided to co-organize this project.
Our partners—institutions that decided to show in exhibition form the effects of Katarzyna Kozyra's work on fulfilling her dreams—also believed In art's ability to change the world: Diim uménl mésta Brna, where curator Frantlsek KowolowskI showed particularly strong belief In the project; the ]án Koniarek Gallery in Trnava, Slovakia, run by Vladimir Beskid; Ludwig Múzeum - Kortárs Művészeti Múzeum In Budapest, under its director Katalin Néray and curator Róna Kopeczky; and Galéria Arsenal in Biatystok, and its director Monlka Szewczyk.
Above all, a belief In the meanlngfulness of art and the possibility of fulfilling all citizens' dreams through it was shown by the authorities of Wroclaw—a city that is friendly towards art and willing to take the risk of becoming Involved in often difficult and costly projects.
Particular thanks are owed to Katarzyna Kozyra, whose deep belief in the sense of art inspired all of us, involved in varying degrees in bringing this project to fruition [here I mean not only the people mentioned above, but many, many others].
We found out that, fulfilling our dreams—despite all the difficulties, despite moments of exhaustion and despair, moments when we lost faith in what we were doing—we were able to participate in something truly fascinating.
