When Robbie Sutherland returns from a spell on duty at Kinvara lighthouse to spend the Christmas with his family, the homecoming is a bitter-sweet affair: Robbie's wife Hannah has never settled in the close-knit Kinvara community and their baby son suffers from cerebral palsy. Only his relationship with Morna Jean Sommero offers Robbie the warmth and solace his heart craves-and she has news that will turn his life upside down. Resigned to the fact that Robbie can never be hers, and weary of the rigors of life as a single mother, Morna Jean has decided to accept Finley Sutherland as her husband. It is a sad day when Robbie is forced to witness his true love walk down the aisle with his own brother.
